Lore & Background

Originally issued by the Gem Empire, this slate-like device allows users to access vast databases of planetary data and control automated systems remotely. While still on Homeworld's side, Peridot utilized it to monitor the Cluster's growth and coordinate with other Gems regarding Earth's reconstruction efforts. However, after joining the Crystal Gems, she used it to communicate with Homeworld and later to send a message challenging the Diamonds. Its utility shifted from a tool of surveillance to one of connection, eventually allowing her to challenge the status quo rather than enforce it.

In Their Own Story

The barn light flickered as Peridot tapped rapidly on the glowing green surface. Static crackled through the air before resolving into a rigid face from across the stars. She hesitated, her fingers hovering over the command key that would seal Earth's fate. With a deep breath, she swiped away the connection, choosing the quiet hum of the barn over the cold orders of the Empire.

Reader's Guide

The tablet functions as a universal remote for Gem constructs, emitting hard-light holograms to display complex maps or schematics in three dimensions. It can override security protocols on Kindergarten machinery and initiate long-range communication with Homeworld via crystal resonance networks. However, its effectiveness is often diminished by Earth's unique atmosphere and the lack of nearby power sources like the Hub. While primarily used by Peridot, other Gems capable of understanding the interface could theoretically operate it if they possessed sufficient clearance codes. The device relies on internal Gem energy rather than electricity, making standard Earth charging methods completely ineffective without specific modification. Visual effects typically manifest as green geometric light patterns that react to touch inputs.
